Accounts

Your account is created and managed through Discord. There is no separate website
username or password to remember.

Signing in

Click Sign in and approve the request on Discord. That is the whole process — we never
see, store, or ask for your Discord password.

Who can create an account right now

We are testing in waves, so account creation is currently invite-only: you need one
of the tester roles in our Discord (Pre-Alpha, and later Alpha and Beta) before
you can sign up.

If you do not have one yet, ask a moderator in our Discord to put you on the waitlist.
Roles are never taken away when a wave moves on, so once you are in, you stay in.

Alongside the wave, some or all of these checks may be switched on depending on the phase:

• your Discord account has a verified email address,
• your Discord account is a member of our server,
• your Discord account is over a minimum age (a Discord ID encodes when it was made, so
  this is checked without asking Discord anything).

The age check is the one that is not about you — it is there so an account costs something
to make, which keeps the world honest for everyone in it.

If you are turned away, the message always says which check caught you — and if it says
we could not reach Discord, that is our problem, not yours. Wait a minute and try again.

Already have an account?

Then none of the above applies to you. Sign-in gates are for people joining; they never
take away access to an account you already own. If a wave changes, or a rule is tightened,
you keep your account and your characters.

Your game password

The game client has its own login, so when you create an account we generate a password
for you and show it once.

Write it down when you see it. It is not stored anywhere you can read it back — we keep
only a hash, the same way the game server does.

You never choose this password, and that is deliberate. A password you picked is one you
probably use somewhere else, and one that a fake "Dynasties login" page could talk you into
typing. A generated one is worth nothing to anybody but you, and if you lose it you can
issue a fresh one in a click.

Resetting your password

Sign in, then press Reset password next to the account. You get a new password
immediately and the old one stops working. Do this if you have typed it into anything that
was not the real game client.

If you lose access to your Discord

You lose access to the game account. There is no other way back in — no security
question, no email recovery, no GM who can hand it over.

This sounds harsh, and it is the deliberate trade. Any "prove it is you another way" route
is a route someone else can talk their way through, and account theft in games is nearly
always someone being persuaded rather than something being cracked. The account is safe
because that door does not exist.

So: put a password and two-factor authentication on your Discord account. That is now
the lock on your characters too.

Seeing who has signed in

Your game password is separate from your Discord sign-in — it is what the game client
sends when you log in, and it is the one that can leak on its own: shared with a friend,
reused from a site that got breached, or picked up by something running on your machine.
Whoever holds it has everything the game asks for. What they do not have is your Discord.

So your account page lists every sign-in — which account, from where, and when, including
the failed attempts. You do not have to turn anything on for that; it is your own account
activity and it is simply there.

Known places

Addresses you have signed in from are remembered per account, so a shared account with a
friend on their own connection settles down to a short list rather than a running argument.
You can confirm a place or forget it. Confirming only stops us flagging it again —
it grants nothing and is worth nothing to anybody else.

Discord alerts, if you want them

You can switch on a Discord message when one of your accounts is signed into from
somewhere not on that list. It is off unless you turn it on, on your account page.

• It never blocks a sign-in. You will never be stuck waiting on a message to play, and
  nothing bad happens if you miss one.
• The button that matters is "That wasn't me" — press it, then change your game password
  straight away. That is what actually locks somebody out. It also flags the account for a GM.
• If your Discord has direct messages from server members switched off, we cannot reach you.
  The account page still shows everything.

More than one account

One Discord account can own up to three game accounts, and each of those holds its own
roster of characters. That is deliberate — this game is built around keeping
a main, a miner, and whatever else you feel like levelling.

Your remaining slots are shown on your account page. If the limit changes, the extra slots
appear there automatically.
